This isn't the most exciting park, or in the best area really, but it is one that I have very quick access to, which comes in rather handy! I live across the street, so I can do sessions here any time, any day, even last minute! The images go from most recent at the top to oldest at the bottom of the page.

Completely in love with the 14 month old squishy cheeked cutie and his new little friend, the 2 month old blue nose pit bull! Little guy was a bit cranky--decided to skip out on his nap earlier, so tiredness kicked in at the end, and he would much rather run around and explore than sit for pictures, ha! Still got tons of cute smiles from him though! And an extra bit a of funny, found out we live in the same neighborhood as them, maybe I can sneak in some more picture of his cuteness?! Haha :D

Met up with September's free session winners tonight outside the Art Museum for a bit of different scenery! The two kiddos were super cute and wonderful! Such a great evening with this family! They will soon be celebrating the little one's second birthday, and wanted to include more family in the photos, grandma & grandpa and one aunt, uncle & cousin--seriously going to hire that little 4 year old as my new assistant, haha! She did a wonderful job making her little cousin giggle for me. :) Happy birthday little miss and hope you enjoy your party!

Definitely a bad start to this session! Tommy and I got so lost and ended up driving around forever, even stopping to ask people if they knew where Chipmunk Dr was. Of course our phones are not working at the moment, so couldn't even call to ask where we were suppose to go (Google told us to turn left when we needed to turn right!). Long story short, ended up being an HOUR late and right after the sun dipped behind the mountain! They were nice enough to come play in the dirt with us anyway though--moving to Missouri next week so this was their last shot at pictures here! Ugh, I felt soooo horrible! :(
To make things just a bit more difficult for me, I obviously wasn't stressed enough ;), their 7 year old hates cameras! Luckily though, he's a big fan of dinosaurs, Minecraft and little contests--like who can smile the biggest! The other two were absolutely perfect models and a pure joy to photograph! Glad we at least got something to remind them of their time in the desert! :) And thank you to my own boys for making me so knowledgeable about dinosaurs and Minecraft--lots of talking points with the oldest guy and I think I even made a new friend, haha! He even introduced me to his bearded dragon, Wizard, when we got back. :D

Such a sweet, smart, pretty and shy 10 year old this evening! She even brought along one of her favorite fantasy novels, which she has already read a few times, and she loves math, too, yay!
She also enjoys singing Let it Go from Frozen, while her younger brother competes with Everything is Awesome from the Lego Movie--got some pretty great giggles when I would randomly sing Everything is Awesome to her (thank you Cody--my middle boy--for making me so well acquainted with this song!). Her younger brother even stepped in for some shots at the end and helped me by singing to his sister some more, haha. What a nice, fun time with this family! :)

These two were great and so easy to work with, especially since this was my second attempt at senior photography--the first one being yesterday! Both still in high school but also taking classes at TMCC to get a head start on their education. They have such an amazing natural connection and so full of laughter and fun! :D Lexi's mom sent along the boyfriend so I could practice some senior shots on a guy as well--and it worked out since they can use the couples shots for their yearbook, too. :)

Had such a wonderful evening with this very intelligent, well-spoken and beautiful home-schooled senior on the high school debate team! She wants to take a few years before college to travel the world as an air stewardess, she is an accomplished musician, skilled in martial arts and is very passionate about education! Did I mention she is also a natural model?! Seriously, the camera loves her. :)

Since there were some last-day cancellations for the mini sessions (fire smoke related/sickness/etc), my sister stopped by to grab a few shots with her family before heading out to meet some friends from out of town. :) Miss Scarly is now 6.5 months old, while Shy has just turned 12 and has been accompanying me on shoots as my assistant--pretty neat. :)

So tonight I had my very first maternity session ever and had soooo much fun! Seriously, my mouth was hurting from laughing so much by the time we left. Congratulations and can't wait to see your little girl! You two make a wonderfully endearing couple! And they even brought their own props, how neat is that?! :)

Just wanted to write up a quick post thanking my husband for being such a good sport! All of my images of children have been used in the stock photography world in such a positive and wonderful way, but my husband.. yeah, he seems to get some pretty humorous uses. So, thank you Tommy for having such a great sense of humor and never letting the stock world get to you! :)
** 60 minute session location at Crystal Peak Park in Verdi, Nevada **
Took my boys out this evening to find a new photography location! Tons of dirt, the Truckee River runs through, pokey grass, tree stumps and fallen logs.. yeah, the boys liked it!
Wouldn't necessarily recommend this particular field for smaller kiddos, toddler size, because there isn't a whole lot of space to walk carefree--I was in shorts and the "grass" was not pleasant--but maybe I'm just sensitive, hahaha, I do hate dirt! For smaller ones in arms, or old enough to walk ok, then great place for exploring! By the way, my youngest just turned 3 and wasn't too bothered!
Just a few tips I've learned along the way on what to wear for your session!
Along with comfort, wear what makes you feel good about yourself! If mom can't find a dress that makes her feel amazing, it will show, so maybe rock your skinny jeans instead! Same with shoes. Don't wear what you're not comfortable in--heels, sandals, wedges, soft boots, flats, tennis shoes, all ok!
To get started, decide which family member has your favorite outfit--maybe your youngest daughter has the most beautiful dress you KNOW you want her to wear. Then, choose outfits for everyone else that coordinate with that dress. For example, if it is pink with yellow and white polka-dots, maybe mom can wear something with pink in it, dad has a splash of yellow, etc. The colors will come together in the photograph and everyone will maintain their individuality. If it's about baby, maybe let him/her stand out with some extra color!
Avoid anything with graphics, characters, large logos and labels. They can be distracting, dating and take away from the subject. Let's keep the images looking timeless and clean!
Also avoid completely matching outfits and sets--everyone in a green shirt and jeans, for example. We want each personality to shine and stand-out, so even if you want the same design, change the colors up--I love Tony Hawk's clothing for my boys, but choose different colors! We know you're in the same family, you're in the same picture together! Try coordinating a few colors together with a pop of another to pull it all in as well *If you REALLY love the same outfit for all of your kiddos, keep it simple, so the focus is still on them!
Steer clear of fluorescent colors, as they tend to create color casts on skin and hair. Pastels and versions of primary colors are great options. After all, YOU are the subject, not your clothes.
Be mindful of the scenery your session will take place in--if we are shooting in a desert landscape, don't wear a lot of khaki and browns, likewise in the parks or forests, not too much green. Again, YOU want to stand out, not blend in. Those colors as accents are great, but not as a whole outfit!
Layers are a great way to add depth and character to your images. Layers don't just mean button up shirts and sweaters. Think accessories, like cute belts, hats, scarves, and jewelry--from necklaces, bracelets to hair decorations!
Choose something that fits well, for you and your kiddos! Don't wear something so small/tight it is pushing all of your bits out. Likewise, don't be drowned in huge pants or tops. Not only is it much more flattering, but you will be comfortable enough to move around and enjoy your session!
Dress for the weather and be flexible. If you have an awesome dress your daughter was going to wear with sandals and it gets too windy or cold, try some tall warm boots, leggings, scarf, cardigan and/or hat to bring to layer it on. If your child is too hot/cold, they will get grumpy and it will show! Blankets also make great accessories AND warm those kiddos up!

Amazing two-part newborn and family session featured both a lovely 3 week old girl, but also the sweetest German Shepherd Mastiff! Seriously in love with both of them! Had to take some nursing breaks and such, which turned into precious moments captured as well!

Took Miss Bob out for her back to school / beginning 7th grade / turning 12 years old next week photos! We went exploring a bit at a nearby hiking trail. We got there at about 7, which gave us about a decent hour of nice light. Never have I thought the desert looked so beautiful!

I have been trying to break away from so much stock photography and get down and dirty with the kids! Ok, not so dirty for this trip, ha. I had the pleasure of photographing a family of 3 last weekend. Little D will be three in just a few days, and is beyond adorable!
Of course he was much more interested in the park and Canadian Geese and ducks than me or my camera, but hey, I needed a good workout, too!
It had been storming like crazy where we live in Reno, Nevada for the better part of that week, so no sweet golden hour light. I was so nervous thinking I wouldn't get any good shots with the glum light and distracting fowl, but the family has already expressed their approval--does this mean I can stop holding my breath now?

Not too many shots in this little quickie of my niece and boys. Ryan, my oldest, was sick with strep throat, and I was feeling pretty crummy, too. So we've got a sick Jack Skellington, a wild Link from The Legend of Zelda, a little mage with recently removed forehead stitches, and my niece was some type of monster thing? Heh. I made the boys' costumes, so that was quite the experience in itself! Oh and Liam's mage robe was just made of old blankets I had lying around, haha. Because Ryan was so sick and cold, he chose to just do a half costume with a black sweater.

Just a few shots from this quickie by the park before going trick-or-treating (I'll add more of them when I get my external hard drive fixed and can access them!). Tommy slipped a disc in his lower back a days prior, so didn't want him to suffer!
Ryan wanted to be Wolverine, Cody is in love with Spiderman, and they both decided Liam should be a baby Hulk. ;)

I had the pleasure of taking photos for my younger sister and her husband last Fall, while they were on vacation here in the States. A cute story really, as everything with this girl is! Sam and Amy have known each other for years, but only as small pixelated characters in an online RPG. As they became closer in the game, they started venturing to other modes of communication, eventually resulting in Sam flying from England to meet her in person!
The rest is history, because they are now approaching their two year wedding anniversary! You guys are just too cute!
